| For
two weeks this summer, a selected group of artists sailed
Canada's high Arctic seas, on a quest to observe and paint
the rugged, untouched beauty of the North, from Nunavut
to Greenland and through Lancaster Sound. On board was our
own Bob Amirault, a self-taught painter who has produced
a vast number of works in both oil and watercolour, treating
us to beautiful glimpses of the world as seen through his
eyes.
Bob's journey inspired him to produce eleven
oils, including the powerful image of Early Morning on Forbisher
Bay, Nunavut, featured recently in the Toronto Star. He
also created eleven watercolours, most permanently themed
around majestic icebergs that rise up from the water like
dazzling crystal monoliths.
For many years, Bob has been painting
landscape scenes on location all over Ontario, the Maritimes,
and even overseas. For much of his painting career, Bob
has followed tradition and ventured out of doors to paint
whatever subject matter most piques his interest. "Painting
'en plein air' or 'in the open air is a very rewarding challenge
for an artist." he says. he also enjoys painting figures
and drawing in conte pencil. He creates his larger paintings
in his home studio and other reference materials gathered
during his travels.
Bob's paintings are exhibited at a number
of galleries and events annually, and his work is also in
display in several corporate and private collections throughout
Canada, the U.S. and Italy.
Along with his numerous hands-on achievements,
Bob is also a popular workshop instructor for many schools
and art groups, sharing his painting techniques with students
and peers for over 20 years. |
