"en plein air"...in the open air...is a
very rewarding challenge for an artist. Artists around
the world, for most of the last two centuries have
taken their brushes and paints outside, in all weather
conditions, to study nature at first hand, seeking
the truth as nature states it.
For most of my painting
career I have followed the tradition and ventured
out of doors to paint whatever subject matter struck
me as interesting. Doing this in different countries,
in warm, hot, cold, freezing, foggy, rainy, sunny,
cloudy or whatever kind of weather has taught me much
about the craft of painting. How to look, observe
and simplify nature's grand design, express changing
weather conditions and to harmonize colour in my paintings,
among a lot of other things.
This page shows a
selection of my works painted in the last four or
five years. Considered studies and reference for larger
studio paintings, many do become a finished painting
and worthy of framing and showing. It is always good
when that happens. |
